| To install and setup your VPN client, please follow these steps. |
| |
| A. To Install. |
| |
| Step A1: Download the client software. You will need WinZip to extract the file, if you don't have winzip you can get it at www.winzip.com. |
| |
| Step A2: Click "Save" to save it on to your hard drive, click on the downloaded file to install. |
| |
|
| |
| Step A3: Depending on your operating system you may get this message while installing. Click "Yes" to continue with the installation. |
| |
|
| |
| Step A4: Depending on your operating system, you may see this message, the message comes up twice. Please click on "Continue Anyway". |
| |
|
| |
| Step A5: This window appears while the software updates your computer's network settings. |
| |
|
| |
| Step A6: At the end of the installation you will have to restart your computer. Please select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now", then click "Finish". You have completed your VPN installation. |

| B. To Setup. |
| |
| Step B1: When your computer is back on; please click on "Start", "Program", "Cisco Systems VPN Client", then "VPN Dialer". |

| |
| Step B2: Please click "New" when you see this window. |
| |
|
| |
| Step B3: Enter a name for this connection in the box below the line "Name of the new connection entry". This is an arbitrary name, in this example, the name is "NYP_EAST". Click "Next >" to continue. |

| |
| Step B4: Enter "140.251.204.227" in the box below the line "Host name or IP address of the server". Then click "Next >". |
| |
|
| |
| Step B5: Enter the Group ID and Password, all in lower cases. The Group ID and Password can be obtained from the NYP Helpdesk. Click "Next >" to continue. This is NOT your personal UserID and password. |

| |
| Step B6: Click "Finish" to save the above information. Your have completed your VPN setup. |
| |

| |
| C. To Connect. |
| |
| Step C1: Connect to your internet service provider (ISP). Click on "Start", "Program", "Cisco Systems VPN Client", then "VPN Dialer". |

| Step C2: Click "Connect". |
| |
|
| |
Step C3: Enter your NYP LDAP Username and Password. Then click "OK".
Note: Your NYP LDAP Username and Password are identical to those of your Amicas (West), Epic (West), and WebCIS accounts. If you have never used these applicatons, you must go to the URL https://webcis.cpmc.columbia.edu/auth/cgi/auth.cgi to change your initial password before connecting to the VPN. |

| Step C4: Click "Continue" if you see this window, your connection is successful. You are connected to the NYP network. |
| |

| D. To Confirm Your Connection. |
| |
| Step D1: You can test your VPN connection by visiting Infonet. Infonet can only be accessed from within the NYP network. |
| |
| Step D2: To confirm your VPN status you can double click the lock symbol in the lower right corner of your screen. You will see this window. Click "OK" to continue. |

| |
| Step D3: To verify which networks or hosts you have access to, click on the "Statistics" tab. |
| |

| E. To Disconnect. |
| |
| Step E1: To disconnect from the VPN, right click on the lock symbol in the lower right corner of your screen, then click "Disconnect". You are disconnected for the NYP network |

| F. For Advanced Users with a Local LAN. |
| |
| Step F1: Go to the connection window, then click "Options". |
| |
|
| |
| Step F2: In the "General" tab, check off "Allow local LAN access". You will be able to access the VPN and your LOCAL LAN simultaneously. |
