VPN Remote Access

CORE Resources maintains a VPN concentrator for remote access to our network. Below you can download the VPN Client Software and also find instructions on how to install, configure the client and connect to our network.

What is a VPN?
A VPN provides an encrypted connection from your home to the NYP network, if you connect to the Internet with your own Internet Service Provider. Currently only applications listed under "Certified applications and instructions" are accessible through the VPN connection. The VPN does not provide the "desktop" or any icons you may find on your computer at your office.
You must be using a cable/DSL modem to connect to the Internet or an analog modem with a third party Internet Service Provider (i.e., not dialup services that maybe provided by Columbia, Cornell, or NYP), the software will not work if you don't meet any of these requirements.

Steps to access your applications.
     1. Apply for VPN access.
          a. Columbia University Health Sciences employees and students, please call 212-305-4357.
          b. Cornell University Weill Medical College employees and students, please visit Weill Cornell OAC VPN.
          c. NewYork Presbyterian Hospital and affiliates employees, please call 212-746-4357.

     2. Set up the VPN connection by following the "VPN Installation instructions" below, complete each step carefully.
          a. Columbia University Health Sciences users, please follow "West Campus" instruction below.
          b. NewYork-Presbyterian users, please follow either "East Campus" or "West Campus" instructions below as appropriate.
     3. Set up the required applications by following the instructions in "Certified applications and instructions".

User responsibilities.
     1. Users are required to have anti-virus softwares with the latest updates.
     2. Users are required to secure their home computers with the latest software upgrades.

VPN and other access may be denied without notification for an account, if a security problem is identified to be originating or entering from a VPN-connected device that is authenticated using that account.

Note: Columbia University employees and physicians can download Symantec AntiVirus at AcIS.
