Advanced Networking
CORE Resources designs, implements and operates the Data Communications Network at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital (CPC and WMC), Columbia University Health Sciences Campus (including Residential Networks) and a number of affiliate Hospitals. We also maintain an extensive Remote Site Infrastructure via diverse wide area links.
Network Design
The design of the network closely follows current modern philosophy. Typically, the infrastructure within the campus is a hierarchical, three level design:
These three layers allow us to maximize avaliable bandwidth while providing 100 Megabits per second to the desktop. The Core and Distribution portions of the network are entirely made up of fiber optic cabling. We maintain fully redundant fiber rings to and from each campus building via diverse paths. This reduces downtime in the event of a disaster or other emergency.
Category 5 Ethernet cabling (Cat-5 UTP) is used for runs from the Distribution layer to each and every desktop and server connection.
